🧠 Perplexity’s Comet Browser Goes Global — But Faces a Security Storm

After months of hype and a massive waitlist, Perplexity has officially launched its Comet browser to the world — free for Windows and macOS. Think of it as a “curiosity-driven” browsing experience that integrates AI assistants directly into your workflow — from research to coding to e-commerce.

Each new tab opens with a Comet Assistant, ready to handle anything you throw at it. It’s like your browser quietly turning into a research team.
But there’s a catch.

Cybersecurity firm LayerX found a zero-click exploit dubbed “CometJacking”, which could let attackers hijack the AI assistant and access sensitive data like Gmail or calendars — without even needing your password. Perplexity has denied any major security risk, but the discovery raises red flags about the growing trend of agentic browsers and their potential vulnerabilities.

Comet also introduces Background Assistants and an Email Assistant that can work asynchronously — with mobile and voice-powered versions coming soon.

✨ The bigger picture: Perplexity wants to reinvent how we browse the internet — but before it can become the new “operating layer” of the web, it needs to win back user trust.

OpenAI’s Biggest Ad Push Yet — ChatGPT Enters Everyday Life

OpenAI is rolling out its largest ad campaign yet — showing ChatGPT in everyday moments like cooking, studying, and trip planning. The campaign launches during NFL Primetime and spans TV, streaming, and social media in the U.S. and U.K.

The creative shift? From futuristic tech to human stories — aiming to make ChatGPT feel personal, practical, and part of daily life.

💡 With 700M weekly users and $13B in annual revenue, OpenAI’s message is clear: AI isn’t coming — it’s already here.

Today’s AI Tool: Base44

Base44 is an AI-powered no-code app builder that turns plain text ideas into fully functional web apps — complete with backend, authentication, and hosting — all in minutes.

What it does: Just describe your app idea in simple language, and Base44 handles everything — generating pages, flows, databases, and live deployment automatically. No coding, no setup, no stress.

Perfect for: Entrepreneurs, startups, and non-tech creators who want to launch apps fast, test MVPs, or build internal tools without hiring developers.

đź’ˇ Highlight: Build enterprise-grade apps without writing a single line of code.

This Week’s AI Tool Updates

  1. OpenAI launches standalone video app Sora 2
Sora 2 (text-to-video model) is now a separate app in the U.S. & Canada, letting users generate video content from prompts.
Alongside the model, OpenAI released a TikTok-style social app, letting users upload themselves (“cameos”) and share AI-generated videos.

  2. Google brings Jules into dev toolchain via CLI
Google's asynchronous coding agent Jules now supports a command-line interface, so developers can execute tasks directly in their terminals.
Plus, its API is now public, making it easier to integrate into custom workflows.

  3. Google Search’s AI Mode goes visual
In a major upgrade, Google’s AI Mode now supports visual exploration — ask naturally and see images + results, not just text.
You can even start by uploading an image or snapping a pic, then refine via conversational queries.

  4. Nothing debuts Playground — build mini apps from text
Nothing (the device maker) launched Playground, a tool that transforms prompts into mini-app widgets (flight tracker, countdown timers, etc.).
While full-screen apps aren’t supported yet, users can modify generated code if desired.

  5. Perplexity’s Comet adds features + Max-user perks
Comet’s free users now get access to tools like Discover (news), Shopping, Finance, and Spaces.
Max-tier users unlock the Background Assistant, email drafting, tone-matching responses, and early feature access.
